Ignore the sports super store Athlete’s Foot on Upper King and walk across the street to South American bar/restaurant The Getaway. Guests will be transported to South America by way of this new addition to King Street. The hip, yet relaxed cabana bar opened at 4 p.m. today with a menu full of classic Chilean, Cuban, and Argentinian (among others) flavors. And, yes, chef Emily Hahn’s empanadas are back. The former Top Chef contestant Emily Hahn previously ran Empanada Mamma before joining Warehouse and then The Getaway.

Below is the full food menu from The Getaway, with ropa vieja, tostones, coconut greens, salt cod croquettes, and more.

The drinks take a few classics and flip them a bit, like the Brazil By Way of Oaxaca, which uses a slightly smoky rum to put a kick into a caipirinha. There’s also beer and wine for non-cocktail drinkers. Restaurateur/beverage director Genevieve Mashburn created the cohesive menu to bring the same South American feel as the food.

The Getaway opens every evening except for Tuesdays, from 4 p.m. until midnight.
