A recognizable name to the Upper King family, Tim Maahs, passed away over the holiday weekend. As owner of popular sports bar Charleston Beer Works, Maahs, was well known throughout the downtown community. There has been a huge outpouring of grief and kind words on the restaurant’s Facebook page after the announcement on Sunday:

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Beer Works owner, Tim Maahs. Tim was a friend to many, and our Beer Works family will miss him dearly.

Many of you know Tim has been a familiar face to King Street even before it was the popular place to be. He played such an important role in making Upper King what it is today. Our thoughts are with all of you who knew Tim and love him like we do.

Tim was real. He was honest. And he loved his Boston Red Sox. ❤️

Maahs was 41 at the time of death.
