Mex 1 Coastal Cantina Almost Ready For Beach Debut

In March, West Ashley's Mex 1 Coastal Cantina announced that it would be the new tenant of the former SALT at Station 22 space on Sullivan’s Island, a prominent address at 2205 Middle St. by the beach. The second location of restaurant has been under construction for most of the summer.

Mex 1 opened in West Ashley in 2012 and has served Mexican-inspired fare, including tacos, quesadillas, and the Baja Bowl, which Eater contributor Brian Wilder swears will cure any hangover.

The laid-back cantina hoped to unlock the doors on Sullivan's Island this summer, and it looks like it may make that deadline by a few weeks. While Mex 1 hasn’t announced an official opening date for the new store, it did host soft openings this weekend and sent several photos of the happenings to Eater.
