You can almost smell the sizzle

Fans of rosy slabs of beef and kimchi fried rice rejoiced when Jessica Hong announced she and her husband, Seungkyu Hong, would open a traditional Korean barbecue establishment 843 Korean BBQ & Sushi House at 6601 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston. Unfortunately, the process of converting the former Wong's Asian Bistro into a grill-it-yourself eatery took longer than expected. Followers have asked about an opening date since last October, when the restaurant started taking resumes for staff. Currently, 843 has an application in with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control for the ok to open, and the restaurant is in staff-training mode.

While you wait for an opening date, take a look at 843's menu full of traditional Korean barbecue favorites and sushi. Or if you're not quite familiar with Korean barbecue, take a look at this map from Eater Los Angeles charting the best spots for "well-marbled beef hissing atop coals" in LA.
