Pawpaw Erases Memory of Wet Willie’s With New Sign

Southern plates soon?

Pawpaw
Erin Perkins is the editor of Eater Carolinas, covering the food and restaurant scene across North and South Carolina.

“One step closer to opening,” declares forthcoming East Bay restaurant Pawpaw on Facebook. The Pinot Group (Stars and Amen Street) eatery announced it would took over the former boozy slush spot Wet Willie’s earlier this summer. A lot of demolition work has gone into transforming the previous grain alcohol hangout into a space where patrons will want to dine on luxurious cuts of steak, crisp fried chicken, and puffed-up hush puppies.

Pawpaw will join the new wave of changing restaurants hitting East Bay Street. From changes at Minero and McCrady’s, to the transformation of Southend Brewery to Lagunitas Brewing, to the addition of pancake chain IHOP — the area has seen a lot of transformation this year. Keep up with all the switches here, and look for a Pawpaw opening date soon.
