Lagunitas Taproom & Beer Sanctuary Brings Brews to East Bay

Tour the space here

Erin Perkins is the editor of Eater Carolinas, covering the food and restaurant scene across North and South Carolina.

Bold name brewery Lagunitas converts the former Southend Brewery and Smokehouse in downtown Charleston into a draft beer playground. The conversion was swift, but now the space is open for locals and visitors to explore the Holy City's latest taproom.

Earlier this past summer, Lagunitas Brewing Co. announced its intentions to take over long-standing space Southend. What followed was a quick transition into a more relaxed lounge to sip a few beers. According to the brewery, patrons can find "old favorites, as well as brewing small-batch, exclusive-to-Charleston, can’t-find-‘em-anywhere-else beers."

Here, photographer and self-proclaimed "beer geek" Chrys Rynearson takes a tour of the new space.

Lagunitas sits at 161 East Bay St. and serves food and beer from 11:30 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. seven days a week.
