Much like its predecessor Mercato, French cafe Brasserie Gigi has shuttered somewhat unexpectedly after the holiday season. Local blogger Holy City Sinner received a tip that Gigi could be closed on January 2, and the next day, Post & Courier followed up with a spokesperson who confirmed the restaurant locked the doors, citing, "the physical characteristics of a three-story restaurant were too difficult to overcome."
Brasserie Gigi was part of the Hank Holliday properties (seafood empire Hank's and DoubleTree Hotel), which recently sold to an Ohio-based investment firm.
The menus are down and paper currently covers the windows of the shuttered address. Think another concept will give it a try at 102 North Market St.?
