Ellis Creek Fish Camp Opens on James Island Tomorrow

James Island teems with new restaurants.

Erin Perkins is the editor of Eater Carolinas.

If you ever dreamed of dining on crispy local fish bites or a lobster roll while staring at the marshlands of James Island, then Ellis Creek Fish Camp can fulfill your needs starting tomorrow. The restaurant is from the same group, Crew Carolina, who purchased the address in 2008 and converted the then-popular Mimi's Cafe into the Boathouse on Ellis Creek, only to be struck by a fire months after opening. Crew Carolina also runs Salt on Sullivan's Island and The Boathouse at Breech Inlet.

Ellis Creek Fish Camp describes its space as a "casual camp-like setting ... consist[ing] of indoor seating as well as outdoor picnic tables and other seating overlooking the marsh and creek."  The sample menu is divided into "Camp Snacks," "Camp Greens," "Camp Flat Breads," "Camp Small Baskets," and "Camp Big Baskets." The eatery is really going for the summer camp on the creek theme.

The restaurant hosted a soft opening yesterday, but the official opening date is Thursday, August 6.
