Eastside dive bar Palace Hotel continued on with hot dogs and cheap beers after chef Blake Joyal departed to open Screen Door in James Island. Recently, the Hanover Street establishment brought on BJ Dennis as consulting chef to bring something extra to the menu. Dennis is no stranger to small bar kitchens — he previously worked at The Cocktail Club, creating the small plates menu, before heading off on his own to orchestrate Gullah-Geechie pop-ups and personal chef appearances.

Dennis brings an expertise on local products and produce to Palace Hotel. He documents his creations, like a fresh corn, tomato, and peach salad, on Instagram, if you want to get a taste of his work before visiting the Eastside bar.
