Since opening in November of 2008, Famulari's Pizzeria has expanded to two additional locations, all three in Summerville. Their newest spot on Ashley River Road in West Ashley makes four, their first in the Charleston city limits. Summervillians (Summervillites?) have voted them the best pizza in the city in the Summerville Journal-Scene for five years running, and co-owner Justin Famulari is excited to bring their pies to a new crowd.
"People unfamiliar with Famulari's should expect fresh, handmade pizza," says Famulari. "Our goal is to provide the highest quality pizza from scratch with a fun family atmosphere. It's the pizza business; it's supposed to be fun."
One distinction for this location versus the other three will be local beer on tap for dine-in customers. Other locations serve beer, but only bottles and cans. Wine is a maybe, liquor a "no."
The restaurant just mounted signage over the storefront in the Pierpont Crossing shopping center last week. Patrons can expect pizza in its three main forms — dine-in, carry-out, and delivery — to start exiting the ovens in June or July.
