Venerable Dive Bar Big John's Tavern Suffers Fire Damage

Fire crews are still on the scene of 251 East Bay St. this morning, after a fire broke out in the apartment above Big John's Tavern around 6 a.m. There are no reports on the extent of the destruction at this time. A photo from ABC News 4 shows burn damage to the second floor.

Older buildings in Charleston seem to have a difficult time recovering after fires. East Bay bar Squeeze has not reopened after a large blaze in April 2013, and Anson Restaurant is still under construction from fire damages on December 24, 2013.
