Today marks the first day of business for "Southern Boulangerie" Rise Gourmet Goods and Bakeshop in Columbia's Five Points neighborhood. The new fast-casual restaurant comes from chef Sarah Simmons, who grew up in Columbia, but has recently been in New York running fancy fried chicken spot Birds & Bubbles and the dormant City Grit culinary salon. Simmons is opening Rise along with Charley Scruggs, the former pastry chef at Oak Table.
A partial menu on Instagram shows bread baskets with blended butters and schmears, fried chicken sandwiches, grain bowls, Counter Culture coffee, and plenty other choices for any time of the day. Rise also offers baked goods, grab-and-go dinners, and chef-driven products, like jams from Sqirl's Jessica Koslow and hot sauce from Edward Lee.
Rise is located at 926 Harden St., Columbia and is open seven days a week, from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., though the sandwiches stop around 4:00 p.m. and the hours of 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. are dedicated to pick-up meals.
