I got the idea from this in New Orleans, a place where I actually get a lot of ideas for cocktails. It's one of my favorite places for eating and drinking," explains Edmund's Oast head bartender Jayce McConnell. "We were having brunch after a few days of Tales of the Cocktail, and it was the morning before my flight back to Charleston. I was at that point that I didn't want to eat or drink anything. The idea of alcohol was not fun." However, McConnell was coaxed to try a Chartreuse and tonic and it brought him back to life.
Fall of the House of the Rising Sun is a riff on that soul-saving cocktail. "I named it this, because New Orleans almost beat me, but not quite." The Edmund's Oast version is gin, Chartreuse, Jack Rudy tonic, Tiki Bittermen's bitters, and lemon and lime juice. McConnell shakes the ingredients together and finishes the refreshing cocktail with a bit of lemon zest.
McConnell and Fall of the House of the Rising Sun can be found at Edmund's Oast at 1081 Morrison Dr.
