A Final Sip of Summer With Arnold Palmero

During Cocktail Week 2015, Eater will share a new drink every day and the origin of the libation. Think of it as "Behind the Cocktail" with local bartenders. Today, Megan Deschaine from 492 shares the story behind the Arnold Palmero.

Bar manager of 492, Megan Deschaine, created a killer cocktail menu for the the summer opening of the restaurant, and is ready to move into fall, if only the weather will cooperate.

Her drink, the Arnold Palmero, is a bright sip to say goodbye to the summer warmth sticking around. Deschaine starts the cocktail with lemon juice, adds strawberry puree, pours in South American tea yerba mate, and then it's on to the vodka and Zucca amaro.

Deschaine was already a fan of the earthy, herbacious flavors of the mate and wanted to use it in a cocktail. As you may have guessed from the name, the tea-based drink is a play on the classic Arnold Palmer (half tea, half lemonade).
