King Street hotspot Union Provisions is without their starting executive chef today. The restaurant opened on July 16 with Shane Whiddon in the kitchen, but he is now moving on. While it is unknown why he left, the owners say that patrons shouldn't notice a change in service at the establishment.
Whiddon joined Union Provisions from Colt & Alison Sea Island Company in Sea Island, Georgia, and it is not known at the time if he will stay in Charleston. Current sous chef Chari Skinner will take on the role of executive chef at the brasserie.
Below is the official statement from the restaurant team.
"Union Provisions and Chef Shane Whiddon have parted ways. We wish Chef Whiddon much success in his future endeavors. He's a very talented chef and we have no doubt he has a bright future ahead of him. Sous Chef Chari Skinner is stepping up to fill the role.We have a great team in place at Union Provisions and expect the transition to be as smooth as possible, so much so that guests will not notice a change. We will continue to embrace our original concept of American Brasserie cuisine in a shared plates format, and look forward to rolling out several new Fall dishes in the coming weeks."
