Eater NY announced, last Thursday, Damon Wise, chef de cuisine of French brasserie Lafayette, was leaving to "to pursue a project of his own." Since the restaurant's opening last year, Layfayette has racked up the praise, from being nominated by Bon Appétit for "Best New Restaurant" to Wall Street Journal dubbing it a "The Super-Bistro."

While Wise did not hint at where he would go after Layfayette, Eater is told, from multiple sources, that he has Charleston in mind. There's no indication yet of where, what cuisine, or who else might be involved. Though, The Lot's Alex Lira worked with him while up north. Wise is a Baltimore native, with an extensive background in fine dining kitchens in Paris and New York City. If you hear anything about this chef in the Holy City, be sure to hit up the tipline.
