Eater received several tips that chef Joe Palma was no longer with Lowcountry fine dining restaurant High Cotton. Palma took the executive chef position back in May 2012. When reaching out to Maverick Southern Kitchens, it was noted that Palma's bio happened to go missing on their "About Us" page.

Maverick Southern Kitchens quickly responded that he is indeed leaving and that Shawn Kelly, a chef from sister restaurant Slightly North of Broad, would take over. Kelly apprenticed under legendary chef Frank Lee for 11 years at SNOB and was recently second-in-command. Palma is said to be exploring "entrepreneurial opportunities" in Charleston.
