Why Did FIG's Beverage Director Leave?

It seemed that beverage director/general manager David McCarus was thriving at his post at downtown favorite FIG. The wine program, under his and co-owner Adam Nemirow's tutelage, was recently nominated for a James Beard Foundation Award. Last week, he spoke with Post and Courier writer Hanna Raskin about the selection.

But, just now, City Paper editor Stephanie Barna broke the news that McCarus left his position at FIG. Barna stated that chef/co-owner Mike Lata didn't have much information at the time and McCarus was unavailable for comment.

The official statement from the company is below.

Mike Lata and Adam Nemirow, partners at FIG (232 Meeting Street), announced today that general manager David McCarus has left to pursue other opportunities. Effective immediately, Nemirow will oversee the duties of general manager at FIG.

"We wish David all the best in his future endeavors, and thank him for the contributions he's made to the James Beard Foundation Award nominated wine program," said Nemirow.
