Last November, Cooking Channel was snooping around Charleston for prospects for "Belly Up!," a show seeking to transform the way Americans think about bar food. With plenty of fancy pub grub around the Lowcountry (see: Warehouse, Gin Joint or upcoming Edmund's Oast), producers may have had trouble locating a joint in need of a menu makeover. However, an anonymous source says the show has been filming in Park Circle at quaint space Cork Neighborhood Bistro.
Presumably in the same vein of other eatery improvement television, host Eddie Russell took over the restaurant and turned it around by updating the plates and perhaps the decor. This time, it seems even the name has changed, as the signage on the building now reads "Cannon Trattoria." A snippet of a menu, in the window, lists crudo, grilled flatbread with chicken skins and pickled shrimp arancini as new items. This Italian influenced fare varies from Cork's original Southern-speckled menu of deviled eggs, pork belly bites and grit fritters.
The space has been shuttered for renovations since Monday and is said to reopen tonight. Anyone planning on attending the big reveal?
