Back in 2013, the Food Network competition show Chopped scouted Charleston for talent and rumors, about who might be on television, have circulated since. Former Bay Street Biergarten line cook Eva Winans appeared on a previous episode and, on January 6, several other Lowcountry culinary talents will make their small screen debut.
Executive chef Emily Hahn of downtown bar Warehouse, chef de cuisine Vandy Vanderwarker of oyster hall The Ordinary, executive chef Victoria Neikrik of Pearlz Oyster Bar, and Oregon-based chef Tynan Gibson will battle for prize money on January 6. The food minds will compete to impress a panel of judges while they create a three-course meal of surprise ingredients. The episode will be the "Viewers' Choice" show. Food Network sent us this description:
Premiering Tuesday, January 6th at 10pm - "Viewers' Choice Ingredients"
In this competition, the mystery basket ingredients were suggested by fans on social media. The chefs open the first basket and find a frightfully difficult protein. In the second round, boxed macaroni and cheese returns to the Chopped kitchen! A giant egg and some mushy fruit are at play in the dessert round.
Host: Ted Allen Judges: Scott Conant, Amanda Freitag, Alex Guarnaschelli
Last night, Hahn announced on a viewing party on January 6, at 7:00 p.m., at Warehouse. Watch to see what the Charleston chefs create with "mushy fruit" and a "frightfully difficult protein."
