Smoked Meats at 5 Cumberland St. Almost an Actuality

From Egans to barbecue in less than three months.

Erin Perkins is the editor of Eater Carolinas, covering the food and restaurant scene across North and South Carolina.

When former Irish pub Egan & Sons closed for renovations, nobody guessed it would come back as a barbecue restaurant, but apparently chef Kyle Yarbrough spent years perfecting his smoking techniques while working for other establishments (most recently Egans).

Eater got a peek at the renovated interiors at 5 Cumberland St. in November, but the restaurant did not have an opening date or a name. Now, the barbecue joint is gearing up to open with an ad calling for front of house employees. Sounds like the public will get taste of this new meatery soon after the holidays.
