Critic is Pleasantly Surprised By Daniel Island's The Islander

The evening included a calypso soloist.

City Paper critic Allston McCrady wasn't expecting much when she visited tropical-themed restaurant The Islander, but left satisfied with her visits to the Daniel Island eatery.

McCrady admits she was "dead wrong" on her assumptions that chef John Whisenant and The Islander's cuisine would be lackluster. She finds impressive salads, "cocktails ... better than any [she's] had on a real Caribbean island," and signs of "a sophisticated chef."
