Power lines are down, ice is coming from the sky and Charleston is quiet—but that doesn't mean you aren't hungry this morning. If you forgot to stock up on bread and milk, there are a still a few options for nourishment.
Quaint cafe Gaulart & Maliclet, better known as Fast & French, is open and serving coffee and croissants. The waitress informed us she took a cab into work because of the treacherous street conditions (leave the driving to the professionals). She risked the roads to make sure you could still order a croque-monsieur.
Corner store and more Queen Street Grocery was seen unlocking their doors just before 10:00 a.m. Go for a crêpe or hoard a few extra bottles of wine. Kudu Coffee and Craft Beer posted to Facebook, early this a.m., that they were ready to dole out caffeine to the masses. Many other establishments plan on opening for lunch, after the ice melts a bit more. Leave a comment if you've seen another restaurant open, and stay safe in any pursuits of food.
