New York went Cronut crazy this summer, and soon the trend is to hit Charleston. It was revealed yesterday, late-night dessert spot Kaminsky's will offer their version of the multi-layered pastry—named the "KronutZ"—this Friday.
If you don't know what a Cronut is, think doughnut plus croissant. Still not impressed? Just look at the throngs of hungry New Yorkers lined up this past August for a chance to indulge in one of chef Dominique Ansel's flaky creations. Ansel is credited with creating the hybrid dessert and has patents pending for his recipe. The exclusive rights to the title necessitate any knock-offs aren't allowed to call themselves a "Cronut," and the Lowcountry will have to settle for a menu item name reminiscent of Dr. Dre's 1992 track, "Deeez Nuuuts."
If your interest is piqued, you may need to line up Friday morning for a chance to nab the limited Kronutz. Kaminsky's will open their doors at noon and only offer 25 of the creations a day (two per customer). Check back at the end of the week to see if a queue is spotted on Market Street in front of the dessert bar.
