First reported in February, upscale bistro Sweeney's opened for business this weekend on John's Island. Those looking for "All Region Americana" cuisine have a new place to check out on Maybank Highway. The restaurant is situated beside notable neighbors French-inspired Southern eatery Fat Hen and Italian institution Wild Olive.
The menu is said to celebrate "the cuisine of various states" and ranges from lobster rolls to a congee dish with pork belly. The non-regional cuisine should attract out-of-towners staying at Kiawah or those looking for something a little different. Heading up the kitchen is chef Jared Secor. Before adopting a new home in South Carolina, Secor worked in prestigious kitchens such as Mario Batali's Manzo.
Sweeney's also hosts an all day brunch on Sundays for those finding themselves sleeping in past 2:00 p.m. and in search of French toast.
