Hold the Cocojitos! Básico Arrives July 4

New, 2 comments

As of tomorrow, Charleston will be able to celebrate America with chorizo tacos, torta de cabesa and much, much more right in the wonderland that is Mixson. The much-anticipated poolside Básico, the taqueria by Mixson Market's Bryan Lewis, will roll up its garage-style doors at 11 a.m. to greet the world with everything from rum drinks to $3 guacamole.

Fitting for its location, the cocktail menu is lengthy, with six margaritas, tequila and mezcal flights and sangria. There are also signature drinks, like the frozen cocojito, a coconut-y take on a mojito, and lots of boozy drinks available by the pitcher.

At lunch, co-executive chefs Leila Schardt and Italo Marino are doing a menu of snacks, salads, tacos, tortas, sides and desserts. At dinner, platos grandes get added into the mix, with dishes like a michelada seafood boil, bone marrow with grilled bread and bistecca.

In a statement given in a press release, the pair explained, "We will produce just about everything in house, including sausages, tortillas and hot sauces, as well as growing some of our own vegetables just outside the restaurant."

Vincent Griffith and Anistar Meffert, two pastry chefs most recently working in Chicago, are making desserts like tres leches, pudding, churros and flan. There is also homemade ice cream, with flavors like chocolate chile, salted caramel and the addictive rice-beverage based horchata.
