The Cooper River Bridge Run might be a huge race, but it's basically just a short warm-up for an enormous drinking fest across Charleston. And it's the one day in town when proper attire consists of nylon shorts and a cut-off t-shirt. Refuel by stumbling into just about any bar downtown, or check out these Bridge Run specials on Saturday for some hearty food alongside those daytime drinks.
Xiao Bao Biscuit (224 Rutledge Ave.)
Asian soul food spot XBB is doing up Thai-style suckling pigs and debuting some new cocktails at their big after-party. The patio will be open.
The Alley (131 Columbus St.)
Spectators can get in on the action at 9 a.m. at the downtown lanes for a pre-run party. The bar opens at 10 a.m., with a $3 Bloody Mary and mimosa special.
Stars Rooftop and Grill Room (495 King St.)
No need to explain why a rooftop would be a good place to hang out, and the expansive one at Stars opens for drinks at 10 a.m. An hour later, they're serving a limited appetizer menu, full of things like bacon tater tots, Bulls Bay oysters and mini BLTs.
The Green Door (251 East Bay St.)
The team behind beloved food truck Roti Rolls is dishing out their Sunday brunch an entire 24 hours early. They're making kimchi Bloody Marys and something called "Adult Hydration Slushies" at their Hydration Celebration Bridge Run Brunch. Doors at 10 a.m.
Fish (422 King St.)
The French-Asian Fish is kicking things off at 9 a.m. with a new $10 lunch deal (after race day, lunch will start at 11 a.m.). Get the special and a Bloody Mary or mimosa is an extra $2.
