It's all about the Charleston beer scene right now. News hit that the former Boathouse/former Rice Market space on East Bay Street is becoming Bay Street Biergarten. The Post and Courier reported the transformation will happen "by this fall."
Across town, word came out that the Bird Hardware building is about to be...a beer garden, this one from the Charleston Beer Exchange team. Here are some of the details City Paper gathered from co-owner Scott Shor:
"...they will carry all the best local and craft beers that they love; the house brand of beer will focus on interesting brews (don't expect a straightforward pale ale), and they will have great food, courtesy of chef Andy Henderson, a FIG alum who's returning to town after a long stint in San Francisco."
And now, there's a rumor floating around about a third beer garden. With all this brew news, people seem to be asking the same question: What's up with the endlessly delayed Craftsmen Kitchen and Taproom? It's still an unknown, but those with insider knowledge of their timeline should make it known.
