Chef Robert Carter of Mount Pleasant's Carter's Kitchen and uptown's Rutledge Cab Co. was recently in an accident on the Ravenel Bridge. Here are the details from City Paper: "...a stopped truck caused a domino effect crash. He crashed into a car stopped behind the stopped truck and the car behind him crashed into him."
Lisa Buzzelli, a friend of Carter's who also works with him on the Lowcountry Food Bank's Chef's Feast, told City Paper he had surgery at MUSC for a broken neck. Other injuries include a broken nose and broken ribs, but the crash did not paralyze him.
In a recent, unrelated interview Carter talked to Eater about splitting his time between the his two businesses. At the time, he said the seven-minute drive, including a trip over the bridge, made it easy to go back and forth between both restaurants.
Update via email from his press team: "Both restaurants are business as usual. We don't know the exact timeline, but do know he is going to have a full recovery and his spirits are high."
Get well soon, Chef.
