Update: Here Are Charleston's JBF Nominees

The James Beard Foundation just announced the 2013 nominees, paring down the "long list," which was released back in February. Here's who is representing Charleston this year:

Best New Restaurant: The Ordinary
Outstanding Chef: Sean Brock, McCrady's
And in the book category: Mastering the Art of Southern Cooking by Nathalie Dupree

Three Charleston chefs were being considered for Best Chef Southeast (that'd be Jeremiah Bacon of The Macintosh, Craig Deihl of Cypress and Joshua Keeler from Two Boroughs Larder), but even though the announcements were set here in the Lowcountry, none were named nominees. If it's possible for an entire tent of people to feel tense at once, it seemed to happen at that moment.

As one Charleston chef was heard saying at the announcements, "the Southeast is brutal."

The book winners will be announced on May 3, and the restaurant awards will be handed out on May 6.

Previously: Right now at Charleston's own Lowndes Grove, the James Beard Foundation is announcing the nominees for this year's awards, and it's being livestreamed at Eater National.
