Asian soul food purveyors Xiao Bao Biscuit received even more love for their Japanese cabbage pancakes--that'd be the Okonomiyaki--which is currently rivaling The Ordinary/FIG chef Mike Lata's oyster sliders as the Charleston dish with the most press thus far in 2013.
The experience was exactly my favorite way to eat: several plates of food, a couple of frosty beers (Toña lager, if you please) and rapidly snapping chopsticks. A table full of food that is so good it quickly extinguishes all conversation. The flavors were fresh, the chilies at turns present and subtle, the fish impeccably cooked, the noodles tender to perfection.
Before rushing there for lunch today, note that XBB is closed until this evening, in order to prepare for their Chinese New Year celebration. On Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., they'll be serving a special dim sum menu, which includes crab congee, fried whole triggerfish, scallion pancakes and more.
