The Islander Does Away with the Pirates on DI

Shiver my timbers, the pirate ships are gone.
Erin Perkins is the editor of Eater Carolinas.

When the group from Holy City Hospitality (Rue de Jean, Virginia's, Coast) took over the shuttered Queen Anne's Revenge space, the first order of business was to lighten up the dark pirate-themed interiors. Instead of focusing on swashbuckling marauders of the sea, they switched gears to a breezy ocean theme with The Islander. The space will be more open with a "light, bright and airy" feel. An outdoor bar will be built and a patio will allow for dining alfresco.

The menu will reflect some of the main influences on Charleston culinary culture, such as Caribbean and Gullah-Geechee recipes, with a focus on local ingredients. Chef John Whisenant, formerly of French bistro Rue de Jean and the Daniel Island Club, will head the kitchen. He says he's happy to be back in the DI area. The restaurant will have something for the entire family, and Holy City Hospitality wants this to become a go-to spot for residents in the area.

Look for them to open in early 2014 and check back here for menus, updates and new photos.
