It appears that Charleston will have its first space dedicated to bubble tea in the near future. A tipster spotted the sign for Tapio at 159 Church Street and gave us the heads up. The address was previously an ice cream parlor. The email noted the shop "started serving boba tea in addition to ice cream before it closed. Maybe the tea started to take off and the owners decided to go after the new market?"
For those unfamiliar with the concept of tapioca balls floating in their beverage, the website for the upcoming café has a video to explain the product. The Facebook page has a few hints at flavors, like lychee and raspberry, but no listing of a menu yet.
