Crust Wood Fired Pizza Coming to James Island

New, 13 comments

Looks like there's a mini pizza boom in the Lowcountry. Crust Wood Fired Pizza is joining the scene, filling the empty space between Zia's Taqueria and the Terrace Theater over on James Island. It's owned by Steve Watkins and the manager is Joe Lapolla, who's worked at some of Charleston's best restaurants like Fig, Cypress, Trattoria Lucca. Lapolla said there will be about 7-8 different pizzas on the menu, as well as panini and homemade gnocchi. They'll have a full bar, and will also be serving craft beer and house-made sangria and limoncello.

The chef is Dusty Chorvat, who was most recently at Daniel Island's Vespa, but spent time in the kitchen at North Charleston's EVO and helped to open Monza on King Street. He says he'll be using traditional methods, but will use ingredients that are "locally or seasonally inspired" with "a slight Southern accent."

They're trying to open the last week in January.
