DOWNTOWN: Charleston Place Hotel's Palmetto Café is closing until mid-February, to undergo some renovations. According to a press release, "Chef Andrew Coins is planning a few new menu surprises" that'll debut when they reopen.
CHARLESTON WINE + FOOD WIRE: BB&T Charleston Wine + Food Festival hosted a mixology competition on Thursday to see which Lowcountry bartender would concoct the cocktail for their opening night party on February 28. Joe Raya of East Bay Street favorite The Gin Joint won with a drink called "Sharecropper Collins." Raya and three other finalists will go head-to-head for a second round on March 2. BEER WIRE: Upscale downtown deli Ted's Butcherblock is tapping the inaugural cask keg of Holy City Brewing's Slanted Porch Pale Ale on January 31 at 6pm. Pints will be $5, and there will be a menu of small plates on offer.
