The Ordinary may be hyper-anticipated, but it's not the only oyster hall coming to the Lowcountry this month. Michael Olsen, the manager at Folly Beach mainstay Snapper Jack's, is working on a new venture called The Oyster Room. It's a fifty-seat restaurant with a full bar that's taking over the Chill & Grill's old space.
The chef is Eric Miller, formerly at Mount Pleasant's Red Drum Gastropub and Surf Bar on Folly Beach. They'll be serving a "traditional oyster menu, with a lobster roll, smoked crab cakes and two to three fresh catches of the day." Expect four to five varieties of bivalves available daily, in addition to wine and champagne pairings. They're shooting to open in two weeks, which is right around the time Mike Lata and co. might get shucking as well. Is this the perfect crosstown rivalry or a trend in the making? Time will tell, but hit up the tipline if you happen to be opening an oyster joint as well.
