Carter's Kitchen, The Macintosh Win Esquire's Big Title

Last night, two Charleston restaurants landed on Esquire's list of 2012 Best New Restaurants. Chef Robert Carter tweeted yesterday that he was in NYC, and it turns out it was to pick up the honor for Carter's Kitchen, the I'On venture he opened in February. According to a press release, this was Carter's third time on the list; Peninsula Grill and Hank's Seafood Restaurant both roped in the title while he was at the helm. The latest comes as he's working to finish his new project, the neighborhood watering hole The Rutledge Grill.

Making Esquire's list was just one of a number of the national nods given to The Macintosh, which recently celebrated its first anniversary. Jeremiah Bacon was a semifinalist for a James Beard Award for Best Chef in the Southeast and, along with Steve Palmer, received another Beard nomination for Best New Restaurant. They also made Bon Appetit's "best new" list, confirming what Charleston's known all along: Upper King is lucky to have The Mac. Is it time for the Bacon Happy Hour yet?
